A flashing PRNDS display is a general warning that the gearbox control system has detected a significant fault. It does not identify the failed component by itself.
Possible Fault Areas
- Mechatronic pressure or electronics
- Clutch adaptation or position
- Gear selector or position sensor
- Power supply or communication
- Overtemperature
- Internal gearbox damage
Can Restarting Fix It?
Restarting may temporarily restore operation if the system resets, but the stored evidence remains important. A temporary recovery is not proof that the fault is repaired.
Should You Keep Driving?
If the vehicle drives normally and the warning is brief, move cautiously to a safe location. Stop and tow if gears are missing, engagement is harsh, the warning is persistent or the gearbox makes abnormal noises.
What The Workshop Needs
Provide photos, exact warning text, the gears available and whether the fault occurred hot, cold or under load.
DSG faults should be diagnosed from the complete evidence: gearbox identity, fault history, electrical supply, hydraulic and clutch data, mechanical condition and the circumstances in which the problem occurs.
