PowerShift Dry Versus Wet: Why The Correct Gearbox Changes The Repair

Compare dry DPS6 and wet MPS6 PowerShift transmissions, their servicing needs and common repair symptoms.

The PowerShift name covers different transmissions. Dry-clutch DPS6/6DCT250 and wet-clutch MPS6/6DCT450 systems do not use the same clutch, fluid, control hardware or repair process.

Dry DPS6 Concerns

Common areas include clutch shudder, seal contamination, clutch actuator operation, fork movement, transmission control module faults and adaptation problems.

Wet MPS6 Concerns

Wet systems require correct fluid and filter servicing and can experience hydraulic, solenoid, clutch, bearing, leak and internal wear concerns.

Do Not Order From The Badge Alone

Vehicle model, engine, build date and transmission code should be confirmed before service parts or a repair estimate are supplied.

See our PowerShift repair guide.

This workshop guide is written for Brisbane vehicle owners and reflects a diagnosis-first approach. Vehicle-specific repair decisions require the VIN, gearbox identification, scan data and physical testing.
