A complete gearbox replacement is not always necessary. Many DSG faults can be isolated to the mechatronic, clutch, flywheel, wiring or a repairable internal component.
When Targeted Repair Makes Sense
The fault is clearly isolated, the remaining gearbox is in good condition, repair parts are available and contamination is controlled.
When Complete Replacement May Be Considered
Multiple internal assemblies are damaged, the casing is compromised, parts are unavailable or a verified replacement offers a better supported outcome.
Used Gearbox Risks
A used gearbox may have unknown service history, clutch wear, software differences or the same common failure. Warranty terms and coding must be considered.
Why Dismantling May Be Needed
External scans cannot confirm every bearing, gear or shaft fault. Removal and dismantling may be the only way to prepare an accurate internal quotation.
DSG faults should be diagnosed from the complete evidence: gearbox identity, fault history, electrical supply, hydraulic and clutch data, mechanical condition and the circumstances in which the problem occurs.
