DSG Fault Symptoms

Why Is The DSG Mechatronic Pump Running Constantly?

A DSG pump that runs frequently can indicate pressure leakage, accumulator problems, pump wear or incorrect sensor information.

Some pump operation is normal, but unusually frequent or long pump cycles can indicate that the system is struggling to build or retain hydraulic pressure.

Normal Versus Abnormal Operation

Pump strategy changes with gearbox type, temperature, gear selection and recent activity. Diagnosis compares actual behaviour with pressure data and fault history rather than relying only on sound.

Common Causes

  • Pressure accumulator not retaining pressure
  • Internal hydraulic leakage
  • Pump wear or reduced output
  • Pressure sensor reporting incorrectly
  • Low supply voltage
  • Valve or solenoid leakage
  • External oil leak

Why The Pump Can Eventually Fail

A pump that runs excessively can overheat or wear more quickly. Correcting the leakage or control problem is important rather than replacing the pump alone without testing.

Useful Diagnostic Data

Pump current, supply voltage, pressure rise, pressure decay, run time, temperature and fault freeze-frame information help identify the cause.

Workshop Takeaway

DSG faults should be diagnosed from the complete evidence: gearbox identity, fault history, electrical supply, hydraulic and clutch data, mechanical condition and the circumstances in which the problem occurs.
