Can A DSG Mechatronic Be Repaired?

When a DSG mechatronic may be repairable, when replacement is necessary and why clutch or internal damage can change the decision.

Some DSG mechatronic faults can be repaired, while others require replacement. The answer depends on the gearbox family, the failed component, oil contamination, internal damage, software compatibility and parts availability.

Potentially Repairable Fault Areas

Depending on the unit, repairs may address selected pressure, pump, accumulator, solenoid, sensor, circuit-board or connector faults. The mechatronic must first be tested well enough to confirm that the symptom is not caused by the clutch, wiring, voltage supply or mechanical gearbox.

When Replacement May Be Better

Replacement can be required when the housing or hydraulic body is damaged, electronics are not repairable, the unit has extensive contamination, suitable internal parts are unavailable or a reliable repair cannot be supported.

Programming And Basic Settings

A replacement unit may require coding, software configuration, immobiliser or component-protection procedures, parameterisation and clutch basic settings. A physically installed part is not necessarily ready to drive.
