The Audi DL501, known by the 0B5 family, is a longitudinal seven-speed wet-clutch S tronic. Its mechatronic, clutch and internal gearbox systems can create similar symptoms, making structured diagnosis important.
Common Symptoms
- Harsh or delayed Drive and Reverse
- Transmission warning or emergency mode
- Loss of selected gears
- Shudder or clutch slip under load
- Pressure, solenoid, circuit-board or position faults
- Oil leaks or internal mechanical noise
Why Oil Condition Matters
The DL501 uses specialised lubrication arrangements. Incorrect oil, incorrect level or contamination can affect hydraulic control and provide evidence of clutch or internal wear.
When The Gearbox Must Be Stripped
If the oil contains excessive clutch material or metal, or if testing indicates bearing, selector or gear damage, removal and dismantling may be necessary. The final parts list may not be known until the transmission is open.
